What does your average day look like?
I work at Bellewood in Issaquah.  My typical day is providing care for 4-5 clients a day over a 3 hour period of time.  Some clients need assistance with safely getting in and out of the shower as well as washing their backs and hair.  Other clients need medication reminders or help with their laundry.

When you tell people about your job, what’s one thing that surprises them, or gets them excited about the work you do?
I tell them how rewarding it is for me.  It is so nice to assist the seniors I provide care for.  This enables them to be able to stay in their apartments and live independently safely.

What is your favorite part about working with us? What is the most interesting thing about the work you do?
I enjoy all the people I come into contact through working at CCI. Merri genuinely cares about her employees, clients, and their families and it shows by how she treats everyone: with respect, integrity, and compassion. I think the most interesting thing for me about this work is how much I learn from our clients about life in general, they have so much unique history and knowledge to share with us, it’s an unexpected but truly pleasant surprise.

What does your average day look like?
I work a part-time schedule, which allows me the flexibility to care for other family members. A typical day for me with my current client consists of a 3-hour shift. I start with her personal care (bathing, catheter care, medicine, etc.) then spend the rest of my shift cooking and baking, talking about family and traveling, helping with light cleaning and laundry, letter writing, and occasional errands or grocery shopping. CCI recognizes the importance of pairing caregivers and clients based not solely on the client’s needs and the caregiver’s training, but their personalities as well. This helps keep both clients and caregivers satisfied and contributes to maintaining the good reputation we have in the industry.

When you tell people about your job, what’s one thing that surprises them, or gets them excited about the work you do?
I am constantly humbled by the depth of strength and resilience I see in the families caring for aging, special needs, or terminally ill family members. It is a demanding, isolating, exhausting, and at times, heart-breaking existence for them. I'm honored that through my profession, I get to use my own life experience to try and lighten loads of these families for a few hours a day in whatever ways I'm capable of. We all have something to offer, some type of strength or expertise that provides support and encouragement. Some of the smallest acts or gestures can truly mean the world to our clients and their families. That is all the motivation I need to do what I do.

Becky Rush- CNA, ND

How long have you worked with us?
One year, four months

What is your favorite part about working with us? What is the most interesting thing about the work you do?
I chose my own schedule and clients. Get to have 1:1 time serving clients - get to know personally & see family.

What does your average day look like?
I spend three to five hours with each scheduled client- help make meals, feed clients, ensure they get meds, give personal care assistance, and do housekeeping tasks. Important to be an attentive companion with conversation and by engaging in activities the client enjoys.

When you tell people about your job, what’s one thing that surprises them, or gets them excited about the work you do?
Unlike other workplaces, I can choose  which clients I want to help and can set my own schedule: which days and how many hrs a week I want to work.

How long have you worked with us?
About a year

What is your favorite part about working with us? What is the most interesting thing about the work you do?
My favorite part about working at Companion Care is connecting with the clients, and bringing a smile to their faces. I love that I am there just for them to help get things done that sometimes other caregivers or family members do not have time for. Sometimes it's the little things that make a huge impact in their daily lives.

The most interesting part of this job is hearing all of the life stories that clients share with me. We are all human and everyone has a story to tell if you take the time to sit and listen.

What does your average day look like?
I work part time, so I typically have one short shift (around 3 hours) a day. I usually have a regular client I see a few times a week and then I might pick up an extra shift to drive someone to an appointment or take them shopping.
When you tell people about your job, what’s one thing that surprises them, or gets them excited about the work you do?

When I tell people about my work they typically say "Wow, that is a really important job!" I think it surprises people how much I love this work. I often say that clients bring me as much joy as I bring them. What more could I ask for in a job?
